From IMVU Romance to Love IRL

Introducing IMVU couple — MrRedx and MrsLKRedx: They have known each other for over four years, a love that started on IMVU and blossomed in real life. Their charming story is not one you would normally hear about IRL, but it is a testament to finding love in the most unexpected places. They also have some advice for people seeking love on IMVU.

MrRedx and MrsLKRedx is a recognized IMVU power couple with a few tips on how to find love on IMVU. Check out this Q&A to get to know them and their IMVU love story.

I’d never seen anything like IMVU. It was a social place, but you could choose to get to know others behind their avatar or not. My kids were like, “Oh God” when I made an account. My kids played for a while, but I guess having mom on there spying made it lose some appeal for them, so they stopped playing. That’s when my online experience took off and I met my husband — which was a bonus I guess. Had I not answered his chat invites, I wouldn’t have met someone to grow to love. No matter how hard the road we face, I have my partner that will have my back. Just knowing someone is there for you like that is a blessing and I’m so grateful.

IMVU: How did you two meet on IMVU?

MrRedx: I was looking to RP [role-play] with a family on IMVU, trying to find a mother. I did a thorough search and wanted someone that was mature, classy, and didn’t feel the need to hover me on IMVU. Soon enough, I came across LK’s [my wife’s] profile card and read her stats. I said to myself, “This looks like a fine, mature, and steady woman. Let me chat with her.” I invited her three times to a chat: she declined the first two, but then accepted the third one. When I finally saw her, her avi [avatar] was more beautiful than I had anticipated and instantly, I didn’t want her to be my mom anymore (lol). Now I couldn’t make a fool of myself so, I went along and said to myself, “ Let the dream go.”

When I told LK that I was searching for a mom, she quickly informed me, “ I am living my best life and I’m too fine to be somebody’s momma.” In my head I was relieved, I said to myself, “Yessssss!” but to her I said “Oh, okay…” Just to be funny and test the waters I said, “Aunt?” Although I would of never let her be, she said, ”Listen…how about we just be friends.”

I replied with another question, “Bestfriends?”

That moment was hilarious because she typed slowly, “Okay….” So instantly, we started chatting more, going places, and sightseeing by visiting many different chatrooms. At the time, LK was very new to IMVU, so while she was doing what she does best (shop), she didn’t know much else. This allowed us to bond and I could really show her things. Eventually, one thing led to another and our chemistry was amazing. The rest was history.

IMVU: What happened when you and your partner met up IRL for the first time?

MrRedx: When I met LK in real life, she was exceptionally beautiful, just like her avatar. She had beautiful eyes, hair, and a soft voice when she spoke. Of course, I had first time jitters, but I warmed up quickly when I realized that talking in person wasn’t too much different from chatting on IMVU.

MrsLKRedx: When I met my husband in real life the first thing I said was, “Your accent is very thick in person, compared to on the phone.” We laughed a lot about it. He has a little problem saying some words, like tortellini, which is just hilarious. I was a bundle of nerves, at first, and my husband could tell. He became his silly self and before long I relaxed and was myself. His ability to make me feel so special and not to take things so seriously is what I love about this man. I’m not much of a talker, so his ability to get me to become a chatterbox is one of the charms about my husband.

IMVU: Did you think you’d find your partner on IMVU? Why or why not?

MrRedx: No, not at all. I never came on IMVU looking for a real life relationship. I was stressed at my real life job in New York City a bit and just got curious about what IMVU was because an ad would pop up and someone told me about it being funny.

LK and I meeting up the way we did and how our story progressed — good, bad, indifferent — was unexpected. One of the things we have always appreciated is that no matter what happens to us in life, we really invested our time in one another and are always friends first before anything else. Lovers, family, etc.

When I got on IMVU, I was so fascinated with the shop and everything you could do. The rooms and the actions on the avatars were hilarious! (I still love my groovin’ mood by the way.) It is a great place to pass the time and escape during boring times to meet new people without the pressures of someone sizing you up, wanting something from you, etc. I could just log on, goof off, talk about the day, and get back to my real life. I didn’t get into role-play until I started my company TWC inc and realized there was a need in the community to bring like-minds together. Whether it be editing, dancing, humor, or running a business, role-play allowed a person to bring that talent to life and paint a picture for the mind. IMVU was a useful experimentation tool to test RL concepts, ideas, and curiosities in a variety of capacities whether it be shopping, roleplaying, designing, or creating.

MrsLKRedx: Wow, this is a whole other world, I did not expect to find someone here. I found out about IMVU when I walked past my daughter’s computer one day and saw her in a chat room.

IMVU: Is there any advice you’d like to share to the community about relationships and love on IMVU?

MrRedx: Woah, we will be here all day. But If I could just bullet some things they would be:

  • Try to be as much of yourself as you can, but have some boundaries.Don’t overshare and don’t undershare. The fine line between open book and deception is very tricky on IMVU. You will mess that up if you are very active because you are dealing with real people behind the avi, but try your best to pull back when needed and correct your wrongs if you have made them.
  • It’s okay to be vulnerable on IMVU. Especially if you role-play, you can really let your mind take you to new heights.
  • Never aim to hurt people. Often times many of us come to IMVU with a void that we don’t want to admit (some more than others), but it creeps up and out at some point. Either someone else points it out or we realize things don’t always go our way. In those moments, step back, take breaks, and reconvene. Breaks are good..breaks are necessary.
  • Don’t be afraid to love someone. Even if it doesn’t work out, it’s not a waste of time because it was a space and time where you got to be happy and in this day and age, there are so many unhappy people going through so much, you gotta snatch happiness when you can. It is a not a crime to find joy in moments so long as there is joy.

What love story will you find?
