A few weeks ago, we announced that we were temporarily disallowing the use of dynamic content and JavaScript in Product Detail Pages in order to secure the site and protect our users. We are now ready to implement a longer-term solution to further secure these pages. From now on, we will only allow code on Product Pages in the Product Description area (see screenshot below). This new policy will apply to all Creators.
What does this mean?
- Everyone can now include dynamic content on Product pages (including code that you obtained from a third party website to customize your page, such as YouTube videos, slideshows, or JavaScript). This will be confined within the specified area.
- All code will be restricted to the product description area. All text, background colors, and background images will be limited to the product description area and can no longer span the page.
The good news
We want to give all Creators an opportunity to see what your Product Pages will look like (and if they will even be affected) before this change goes into effect. Starting today, and for the next five days through July 13, we will show the change to Creators only. During this time, only Creators will be able to see this change; non-Creators will not see any change. There is no action required on your part; you may not even have to do anything at all. We just want to give you the opportunity to verify that your pages are working the way you want them to before we turn this on for all users on July 14. Once we implement this change, you’ll still have the option to make changes to your Product Pages, as you do today.
We realize that the past few weeks have been challenging, as you worked to create Product Detail Pages that marketed your products while adhering to our guidelines. We hope that restoring the ability for you to use dynamic content alleviates this challenge.
Thank you,

I am not happy with this at all… Your new set up puts all my images to the left of the page…everything looks off and not centered..
You state that there is no action reqired on my part…so what…is this “supposed” to fix itself?? I think NOT. I make rooms…and my “try it” button has vanished as well…I HAD REFRENCES TO THIS FEATURE!!! and now it is gone…Oh sure I see the new one…puts it smack dab in the center of the page, and not at all in harmony with the “try it” butoon You have already with clothing. How unfair.
I have not developed since you first implemented this rule…Very unjustly I might add.. I beleive they way your worded it..(me being a tier 4) was Extremely insulting. Followed by this, with not so much as an apology for making such a unfair accessment. to begin with. I didnt enjoy decorating my page to begin with, and now I feel it is much more complicated…due to the fact i would have to find the codes that work and those that dont. Why can’t you guys just leave things alone that arnt broken??? and fix some of the things that are…like your sorry excuse you call customer service.
I am happy about this change. Some developers put so much crap on their product page that it takes far too long to load. i want to see the product in a picture, not a flash animation that plays music and videos that I have to wait forever to load. Usually I just give up and move onto another product. KEEP IT SIMPLE GUYS! And, thank you IMVU for doing this.
I think this is a wonderful idea and much safer. Good for you IMVU
Ive said it before and Ill say it again. The simplest solution to all the page problems -ACTIVATE TRY IT BUTTONS THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE CATALOG. Duhhhhhh… I dont have any sort of technical degree like the people who are supposed to run this site. Dont want people jamming up their pages with videos, fancy backgrounds and extra junk that slow things down or may have bad content? VIOLA-TRY IT BUTTON. Gosh darn but thats a simple answer and I guess itll never be done because its more fun to keep yanking the rug out from under people and insulting their intelligence by saying things like only pros can do this or that because the lowly lower tier people havent spent nearly enough. Oh but a pro developers page just crashed me entirely off my pc because of whatever junk they had in their page.
I absolutely can not comprehend why clothing, jewelry and pets etc have try it buttons built in. But for some totally unknow reason it can not be implementec catalog wide. Nobody would need more than a simple static picture for demonstration if potential customers couldclick a button and just go LOOK.
DOUBLE DUHHHH.
And thanks again ever so much for completely screwing up my pages because I had used the try it button codes before, read that the old stuff would be ok, and discovered what big fat lies it all was.
Ive got one room in the works but I wont be making as much stuff as I was. At this point Im so utterly disgusted with all this that I dont even care if I lose my tier levels that I worked so hard at and spent so much to acheive. But that doesnt count because IM NOT AS INVESTED as a pro.
Thank You….Thank You…Thank You! Good to be back in business again.
I limited my products descriptions to the area anyway and was quite upset when my hard work in creating a good looking page was suddenly no longer allowed. Thanks very much for this new update as it has now allowed me to continue using my original page. Thanks IMVU for the update.
thx
Thats more like it!! Now it is better.
a big trouble here whit dat new update!!!!damnnnn i cyant put some html codes for juss displaying an pic for presentation of the product!!!it s awesome here!OMG!!seriously how we have to work now?whitout prodyct presentation!damn im so angry about it!
I find it a bit humourous that IMVU staff only responds to people who are ok with this idea.
and seems to ignore the rst of us who is having issues with the new restrictions.
Why are my images shoved to the left on some of my images, and Why should I have to fix that? if they wernt that way to begin with???.
Why did you take away my “try it” button??
Why do you expect me to have to resubmitt everything I ever done just to add what you took away.
Further clogging up a already overwhelmed peer review
What is the whole point of this if malicious codes can STILL be implimented using this new rule
Why are you guys so Hellbent on pissing off the people who make this site what it is???.
Serious…I would be shocked if I get a reply from staff on this.
@Kjiristi- I have been responding to people who have posed questions versus just ranting and complaining, since there’s not a lot I can say to that.
Without an example of what is happening on your Product Pages, there’s nothing I can do to assist you. If you’d like to respond with an example, I’ll take a look and see what I can do to help. As far as the “try it” button, it would clearly be against our best interest to remove this button from anyone’s Product Page. This button appears above the product description, so I can’t imagine why you don’t see it, but again, please send an example for me to review.
Thanks,
Jami
