Dynamic Content

Update- 7-9-09: Please read the latest update on this topic here.

We recently implemented a new rule that new Product page submissions cannot include dynamic content.

Last week, after identifying some malicious scripts embedded within Product pages, we swiftly disabled the use of JavaScript within Product pages. Because IMVU did not previously certify, review, or authorize dynamic content added to Product pages, we had no insight into code that could potentially cause unintended issues like broken pages, viruses, or unexpected results for you and the users viewing your Product pages. We did not intend to disrupt or upset our Creators.  Rather, we did this to ensure the safety of our users, which is our main priority.

We are allowing Creators who have achieved Pro Creator status the ability to edit existing or submit new Product pages that may include dynamic content.  We did this because we believe Creators Tier 5 and above are far too invested to include malicious scripts in their pages.

However, when we implement a longer term solution to further secure these pages, all Creators, regardless of Tier level, will be treated equally.  Everyone will be required to restrict all code to the product description area of the Product page (see screenshots below), and Creators will be free to use JavaScript on their Product pages, confined within the specified area.

In order to reduce confusion, we will soon update the message Creators see when submissions are rejected to include a link to examples of what is allowed or not.

Thank you again for your patience as we continue to work towards improving the site.

    First I read the blog.
    Then I read the comments.
Then I got confused and went BACK and read the blog again.I’m pretty sure I read it right the 1st time but comments will often confuse an issue. It looks to me like we WILL NOT be losing the ability to post product pics in the product description box.Of course I’m not moaning and groaning because I put simple photo-bucket pics in my prod descrip. or slide slideshows.I haven’t gotten all fancy.I wish admin would correct me if I’m wrong but it looks to me like we will ONLY be able to put code IN THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION BOX.
    Just my observation and 2cents.

    • All I wanted to do was put a simple pic of my product in the description box as instructed, but it was still rejected. All I am able to do is show the tiny icon pic at the top. I opened a public room to display my products in 3D, and have had a fair amount of luck that way. I don’t have slideshows or anything glitzy, but I still can’t bring anything in from photobucket.

Why all the restrictions? Hmm, “the safty of your users”? That don’t make sence. Ok , you might as well disable the javascript on the home pages as well. I have to hand it to you. This site is going down hill. Well you can keep your top developers trying to keep your revenus up or you can keep the revenus keep increasing. The way your going IMVU I bet you anything you guys are going to change it back. I noticed also, that on the update for the chat sofware is really disapoiting. I mean yeah , you can shop on your chat box but you can not see the discription of the product and can’t type in the trigger in the dressing room.(if it has one) who in their right mind is going to buy a product if it is not tested before it is bought? People buying a product with out checking it first is a myth. IMVU, your looking at a down hill situation in revenue. Don’t get me wrong I love this site. But your just making it harder for the people who help you benifit from it.

  2. I’m a T3 & I’m checking my sales each & every day & I’m not getting credit for my merchandise that is selling. I’m getting NO emails letting me know the product was purchased & I’m not getting the credits in my credits balance. (Yes I know ppl sometimes buy w/PROMO credits, but even then U still get an email or did U guys stop that)
The only way I’m noticing I have a sales is by checking the # under a particular item.
THIS IS GETTING A LITTLE OF THE SUBJECT HERE, BUT, I NEEDED A FORUM THAT IS VISITED REGULARLY TO VOICE THIS CONCERN…. Whats going on IMVU??

my banner is an iframe… i wish you guys could view my code and approve it… you speak of pros being too far invested… check my records… i am nashobaknight, taiah, taiahthera, badiataiah, and taiahraven… i have way too much invested… all i would like to do is be able to put my own banner in my product pages on all accounts… you say treat us all equal but this is not… you treat loyal customers that have been here for years like dirt, then when newbs come in they get everything easy… you should be focused on keeping those you have so they will continue to give you more money instead of bringing in so many that seem to whine when they find out they have to buy things and run around begging for things… its us, parents and adults who put money into your client… and i am sure i can speak for thousands of others when i say if you treated your long time customers better, those that have remained thru all the crap you have put us thru, then we would not be so hesitant to give our money as we have in the past, and you would be making way more money… you say you treat us all the same but you dont… pros should also be limited… or give long time devs that are not pros, the same priveldges… we have just as much invested as they do…

I can say I am not happy with this..I spend countless hours trying to have my codes easy to navigate, and professional looking…there is nothing wrong with my codes…and now I have to wait to be T5 and up to use them again…which is difficult for me because the Tier system is a fluke…

Does this mean that unless you are a tier 5 and above you no longer can have a nice page for advertising your product? If this is the case than that is ridiculas. I am not a pro but I have a lot in my catalogs and I would like to be able to advertise them to help with the selling. That makes it really difficult for someone who isn’t a pro to be able to get their product sold. Doesn’t seem far at all. It is hard enough as it is to become pro let alone not being able to do anything to help promote it.

  6. TinpanChuck says:

Well, I must say, this definitely makes it harder to describe my products, I mean, I’m only a tier 2, myself, and have only pasted html for some of my stickers, and they still have the html embeds in the product description, so I don’t know what the deal is, couldn’t you simply review the descriptions, like you do with a new product, say, in peer review, to make certain that everything is working the way it was intended? That seems to be more logical than not allowing it outright.

This is not working right. A couple days ago I submitted stuff fine and my banner etc was accepted. Yesterday the same items were blocked. I tried everything I could think of, including removing ALL dynamic content. My plain text was still blocked. Today I tried again with just text and I still recieved an error that I was blocked from using illegal dynamic content. I submitted a help ticket but so far I am being ignored. I hope IMVU isn’t stupid enough to wonder WHY it has so many unhappy users. At first I supported this but right now I am pissed off.

CelticFairy I too was having that happen to me and I went to some forums and saw one person saying if you use metal or metallic or anything like that in your descrip. it will block. IDK what that is all about but it really stinks. Try wording your descriptions around a bit if you haven’t already .. Shame on you IMVU. Making things really unbearable for everyone! My Tiny pics wont show up .. it seems to accept it but then they don’t show in the description area, Snowdew.

I found that by creating your catalogue production page in photoshop or gimp you can then save as a jpg file and upload using Tinypic to get a html code which is actual allowed with imvu product description.

  9. I am having a problem with my imvu previewer, It seems when i try to up load the file to imvu the program file that holds all my developed products is no longer there Could you please help with this problem. I havent been a customer long but i do believe that this needs to be fixed. I have uninstalled the Previewer and re installed several times and had the same result. If any one else is having this problem help on how to fix it would be good. Also i cannot use the new prerelease either it will not load on my system.

  10. I find this new rule to be a punishment to those of us that are under the tier 5. Just because I’m at tier three does not mean that i do not work has hard or have invested any less then those above me. The rule is very unfair and hope you change it back so that all developers no matter what tier will be treated equally as we should be.
